Steiner Homes is Northwest Indiana’s premier home builder, serving Valparaiso, Crown Point, Chesterton, St. John, Dyer and the surrounding communities. Our stunning homes are available in various sizes and styles and offer all of the amenities you could want. While building a home is certainly an exciting step to take, there are a lot of decisions that must be made before you can even break ground. Arguably, one of the most important decisions is which style of floor plan your home will be, whether it’s ranch, master on main, or two story.

What Is a Master on Main Floor Plan?

One of our most popular floor plan styles, master on main floor plans feature a primary level master bedroom suite, allowing for easy accessibility, increased privacy, and even multi-generational living! This house plan style was introduced in the 1980s, and has been steadily gaining popularity ever since due to its fantastic ability to grow with your family’s changing needs.

Pros of First-Floor Master Suites

Master on main homes are a fantastic option for parents wanting a private master suite away from children and house guests, or parents who plan to stay in their home after their children leave. Whether or not your next home will be your forever home, a master on main floor plan is a great option for many families. Some additional benefits of master on main floor plans include:

  • Ability to care for aging family members – if you
  • Ability to offer multi-generational living
  •  Easy access for disables or injured family members
  • Distance from older children and/or house guests
  • Flexibility for future needs

Just because a master suite is located on your main floor doesn’t mean you must use it as a head of house’s bedroom. There are multiple uses for the space aside from this. If you have guests that frequently visit, you could set it up as a guest suite, offering easy access for those with disabilities or who are aging and have trouble with stairs. With this setup, your guests don’t have to share a bathroom with anyone else, adding a level of comfort and privacy to their stay.

On the other hand, if you do utilize the master suite as the head of household’s bedroom, you can get that privacy that you and your teenage children probably want by sleeping on different floors of the house.

There are also some instances when you may choose to put your bedroom in another location in the house. If you have small children, access to them is essential. During this time, you could utilize an upstairs bedroom and use the master suite on the main floor as a home office until the child is old enough to be upstairs without you.
